YSU's Poljak named to All-Rookie team

BOARDMAN, Ohio - Youngstown State University freshman center Mike Poljak (pole-jack) was named a Division I first-team All-Rookie selection by the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

A native of Bethel Park, Pa., Poljak finished fourth in the nation with 74 points on 37 goals and 37 assists. Of his 37 goals, 13 were scored on the power play and five were shorthanded.

"It's great to see players receive accolades that they deserve," YSU Coach Rocky Russo said. "Mike was a tremendous part of our success this season."

Poljak was named the Division I Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 3, and helped lead the Penguins to a 16-16 record under second-year coach Russo.

Poljak recorded four hat tricks on the season, including a five-goal performance on Dec. 9 in a 9-6 win over the University of Toledo. He registered a point in 25 of his 32 games.

The ACHA also announced that Poljak is one of four finalists for their Division I Rookie of the Year. That award, along with the All-American teams and the Player of the Year, will be presented sometime next week.
