Penguins Struggle on the Road against Oakland University
Oct 30- Entering Friday night's game against the Oakland University Golden Grizzles the Youngstown State men's hockey team was looking forward to knocking off a ranked opponent. The Penguins came into the weekend loosing 3 of its last 4 but came out of the gate prepared and ready to compete.
During a very even first period the 16th ranked Golden Grizzles struck first with a power play goal halfway through the first period. The Golden Grizzles played solid defensively and only allowed the Penguins to take 3 shots on goal. During the second period the Golden Grizzles capitalized on two power play goals which gave Oakland a 3-0 lead heading into the last period. The Penguins were outmatched in the Third Period as the Golden Grizzles had a 5 goal outburst which lead to a final score of 8-0 in favor of Oakland University.
Oct 31- Looking for a bounce back performance from their Friday night effort the Penguins took the ice with high hopes. However, they left the ice with many questions unanswered after their dismal performance.The Penguins let up another 5 goal period as they did the night before in the first period. As they headed into the second period the feisty Penguins showed no giving up as they stroke for two goals. But the Penguins could not keep the puck out of the net. The third period was easily the best period of the weekend for the Penguins as they competed and played hard to very last whistle. "We are not happy about being blown out twice, however, we will learn from our mistakes and remember the feelings we have right now." explained senior captain Zak Kusek. "We will make sure we do not loose like this again and we will have things right before next weekend." Also explained Kusek.
