Penguins Come Up Short in Michigan
The Youngstown State hockey team took to the road this past weekend looking for a couple of wins. However, the hockey squad came up empty handed loosing to a few nationally ranked teams. On Friday the team took on Michigan Dearborn which is ranked 16th in the latest ranking period. The Penguins came out hard and grabbed an early lead but the Michigan Dearborn special teams were too much for the Penguins to handle. Michigan capitalized on several power play opportunities which ended up being the difference as the Penguins lost 5-2. On Saturday night the Penguins took on the same Michigan Dearborn team and gave the Michigan Dearborn Wolves all they could handle. Although the Penguins lost 3-2 in a shootout, it was one of the best games played by the Penguins all year according to Coach Patterson. The Penguins played an aggressive style which for most of the game Michigan Dearborn had no answer for. But like how much of the season has gone for the Penguins they came up just short. In the shootout the Penguins did not score and Michigan Dearborn scored on their 3rd attempt which ended up being the difference in the game. On Sunday and the final game of the Penguins road swing the squad took on Nationally ranked 12th Adrian College. The Penguins came out flying in the first period which ended in a 1-1 tie. But the long weekend looked apparent as the Penguins became sluggish which Adrian Capitalized on. The Final score was 7-2 in favor of Adrian College which scored most of their goals in the final period. "I'm extremely happy with our performance this weekend, although we did not win any games we showed we we are capable of playing with some of the best teams in the nation." Added Coach Patterson.

Penguins Take to the Road After Two Conference Losses.
In the last few weeks the Youngstown State Hockey team has faced a string of bad fortune. Whether it be a one goal loss, a bad bounce or questionable call one fact, remains the Penguins are looking to win in Michigan. The Penguins take to the road on Friday as they face Michigan Dearborn a nationally ranked opponent. They will face that same Dearborn team again on Saturday and will face another ranked opponent in Adrian College on Sunday. "Sometimes we look like the best team in the nation and other times we look like basement dwellers". "If we come out this weekend and play like I know we can we should be able to win some games this weekend". explain coach Patterson. The Penguins are in the middle of their longest loosing streak of the season which has extended too 6 games after two losses last weekend. "We're defiantly looking to rebound after our losses to West Virginia and Slippery Rock, we really do not have a choice but too." Said Freshman Nick Wolf. As the Penguins head into the last stretch of their season there is no question that all the players are feeling the pressure. The Penguins are sitting in seventh in the CHMA and need to be in Sixth in order to make the playoffs. Coming into the year the Penguins had high expectations and although a nationals appearance is all but dead the Penguin hockey team is still looking to win the conference championship and end the season a good note.
